The Magnetic Contact Sensor can be used for monitoring doors and windows. It is small (1" x 1" or 2.54cm x 2.54cm) and can be installed discreetly. Battery life is around 1 year, depending on the number of transmissions. A rugged yet elegant cream plastic case allows the sensor to be deployed both indoors and outdoors, and, if sealed with silicone, could be water-resistant. The sensor is activated by a change in the external switch (i.e., open or closed), sending a transmission to the base.
While the battery enables a more discreet sensor, using an external power source allows the contact sensor to operate in request/reply or publish mode. In request/reply mode, the device can operate fully "awake" and respond to requests to the current switch state. The device will also transmit switch state changes when in fully awake mode.
Optimize battery life
Tested at 288 (144 door open/door close) messages per day for 1 year on one battery.
If you are using this sensor for doors and windows that are usually closed, use a Normally Closed switch. The switch is closed when in contact with the magnet. You are using the sensor with a door or window that is usually open; use a Normally Open switch. The switch is open when in contact with the MagnMagnet.
